Because I have a purpose. I have been trained for my calling for as long as I can remember. As an acolyte for the Gathering of the Sun, I am taught that my life isn't my own. I worship. I serve. And when the time comes, I will greet my fate with open arms and a sin free heart.

People call us a cult.

We are judged. We are ridiculed and reviled. Pastor Carter tells me they will be lost when the end comes. So we hide ourselves away from their sick and dangerous world. And my soul is safe because I follow the path.

I am the perfect disciple. I am confident in my devotion.

Until doubt arrives wearing the face of a boy I never expected to love.

Quando ho visto la cover di questo romanzo sulla pagina FB dell'autrice, l'ho immediatamente inserito nella WL. E quando ho scoperto di aver vinto una copia in anteprima ho fatto i salti di gioia! Così, senza alcun indugio, ho iniziato a leggerlo...
... ed è stato amore fin dal prologo ♥

Il suo amore era la tempesta. Eclissava il sole.

Avevo già sperimentato la scrittura dell'autrice con l'irraggiungibile The Contradiction of Solitude, ed è stato bellissimo riscoprirla. Questa nuova storia mi ha presa da subito, nonostante il mio disprezzo per i culti religiosi che si rivelano essere vere e proprie sette. Fin dal momento in cui Bastian entra a far parte di questa comunità, ho iniziato a lanciare gridolini di eccitazione!

  Sembrava così semplice. Respirare con lui. Stare sdraiata sull'erba accanto a lui.
  Tanto, tanto semplice.
  Eppure non lo era.
  Neanche lontanamente.
  La sua presenza portava con sé un uragano.

L'arrivo di Bastian altera gli equilibri e stravolge inevitabilmente la vita di Sara, la cui fede assoluta comincia a vacillare. Giorno dopo giorno, la vediamo scemare un poco di più, spinta via da un altro tipo di fede, dalla curiosità, dall'inconscio desiderio di una vita al di fuori di quel mondo isolato, di una vita normale.

Non è stato facile comprendere il comportamento della protagonista, non è stato facile accettarlo. A ogni parola per me insensata volevo entrare nel libro e prendere tutti quei fanatici a sberle. Per farli svegliare, per fargli capire quanto fosse sbagliato, per fargli vedere che razza di mostro stavano seguendo. Ah, il Pastore Carter... Non il messaggero di Dio, ma il Diavolo. E il Diavolo è così subdolo e ingannatore...

  «Sara». Disse il mio nome con un singhiozzo strozzato. «Sara». Una preghiera. Una benedizione. Come se io fossi stata il suo cammino. Il suo viaggio.
  La sua ragione.
  «Credi in me» sussurrò, gli occhi pieni di speranza seppur diffidenti. «Abbi fede in questo».

Questo romanzo è stato una sorpresa! Man mano che si prosegue, la lettura diventa sempre più coinvolgente, fino a piazzarci davanti una verità agghiacciante che mi ha fatto urlare per la disperazione e l'impotenza. Sono molto curiosa di leggere come si concluderà la storia di Bastian e Sara :D

Ho vinto una ARC sul gruppo FB Vilma's Vixens e ho subito iniziato a leggere! Sono già al 34% e non vedo l'ora di proseguire :D mi sta piacendo molto! La scrittura dell'autrice, poi, mi trasporta in un altro mondo ♥

COSA HO LETTO LA SCORSA SETTIMANA

Ieri non ho avuto le forze per scrivere la recensione di questo splendido romanzo, perciò tutto quello che posso dirvi è: «LEGGETELO! E poi guardate pure il film per farvi ancora più male, ovviamente!». La storia di Tom e Isabel... non ci sono parole per descriverla.

COSA LEGGO QUESTA SETTIMANA

Ho cambiato idea e ho deciso di leggere l'ultima fatica letteraria di A. Meredith Walters – autrice entrata nella mia Top Autori con il suo incredibile e impareggiabile The Contradiction of Solitude, che ancora oggi è al #5 posto nella mia Top Ten – perché ho vinto una ARC sul gruppo Vilma's Vixens! Il romanzo dovrebbe uscire oggi, anche se non lo vedo ancora su Amazon, ma comunque tenete d'occhio la pagina dell'autrice ;) Sono al 7% e già voglio sterminare i membri di questo culto religioso. Sono molto curiosa per l'arrivo del ragazzo che capovolgerà il mondo della protagonista! Intanto il prologo mi è piaciuto da impazzire ♥

COSA LEGGERÒ LA PROSSIMA SETTIMANA

Acquisto del RARE! Ma mi sono completamente dimenticata di farlo firmare alla Cole T_T non mi parlate, sono disperata. È che non ho proprio avuto tempo... Il mio giro l'ho fatto prima dell'inizio dell'evento e lei non c'era ancora :( Me ne farò una ragione... intanto non vedo l'ora di farmi spezzare il cuore da questo romanzo!

Friday Finds #6

E arriva venerdì ♥
Oggi le mie scoperte sono scarse, ma importanti. Abbiamo il primo della serie che ha reso famosa la Walters e che qualche giorno fa è uscito in Italia per la Newton Compton (ma voi sapete già che ormai con loro ho chiuso, quindi lo acquisterò in inglese, quando verrà il suo momento. Curiosità: non lo avevo aggiunto alla mia TBR, dopo aver terminato The Contradiction of Solitude, perché la cover non mi entusiasmava... invece poi sono andata a guardarla più da vicino e mi piace parecchio!). E infine abbiamo uno dei futuri romanzi della Sorensen, con la bellissima cover realizzata da Hang Le :D

Waiting on Wednesday #1

Buongiorno ^_^
Uh la la, e che succede? Succede che una volta al mese, in sostituzione della rubrica WWW o in aggiunta ad essa, ci sarà il Waiting On Wednesday, in cui vi svelo le uscite del mese che attendo con trepidazione :D Questi sono alcuni dei romanzi che usciranno a Febbraio e che sono nel mio Waiting For ;) Abbiamo il nuovo standalone strappalacrime della Walters (ovviamente già inserito nei miei To Buy), il nuovo thriller della Littlefield (che io ho avuto modo di apprezzare con la trilogia urban fantasy Aftertime), il secondo attesissimo volume della serie You della Kepnes (spero ardentemente che la Mondadori lo pubblichi in tempi strettissimissimi, perché ho bisogno del mio Joe-Joe) e il nuovo romanzo di un'autrice che ancora non conosco (scovato l'altro giorno e aggiunto non appena ho constatato che tratta un triangolo amoroso!)

Ecco, ci siamo. Devo parlavi dell'ultimo romanzo a cui ho dato 6 stelle. L'ultimo romanzo che è entrato nella categoria Best of the Year e Must Read. Del romanzo che si è piazzato al 6° posto della mia Top10, scalzando Megan Hart. Del romanzo che mi è entrato dentro in modo disarmante. Del romanzo a cui ancora non riesco a smettere di pensare. Devo parlarvi di lei. Ma non posso farlo realmente, perché . . . #keepthesecret. Signori e signore, The Contradiction of Solitude di A. Meredith Walters. Una scrittrice sensazionale che è entrata nella mia Top Autori, che ho conosciuto proprio con questa opera e da cui ho imparato tantissimo ♥

Questa mattina voglio segnalarvi un thriller psicologico che, grazie alla superlativa cover realizzata da Regina Wamba di Mae I Design and Photography, è entrato di diritto nel mio prossimo ordine Amazon :D L'autrice è A. Meredith Walters, che molti di voi conosceranno per il suo Reclaming the Sand. Mi rendo conto che io già faccio fatica a capire gli intrecci in un thriller in italiano, figuriamoci in che stato sarà il mio cervello dopo una lettura in inglese xD Ma questo libro deve essere miooo! E il booktrailer? Wowissimo *-* Mi raccomando, #keepthesecret ;)
